Charity Work
Established in 2012, Shade Works Window Fashions has demonstrated an ongoing commitment not only their customers, but to the community as well. Over the years, our team has worked diligently to lend support to a variety of charities and aid in the raising of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our strong work ethic and sense of obligation indicates the value and commitment that the Shade Works Team has for our customers and the community as a whole. Listed below are but a few charities that the Shade Works Team has had the pleasure of lending a hand to!
Type 1 diabetes, formerly referred to as “Juvenile” or “Insulin Dependent Diabetes” occurs when the pancreas no longer produces insulin. The incidence of type 1 diabetes is on the rise and affects over 200,000 children and adolescents across Canada with the greatest rise occurring in five to nine year olds. Over the past 8 years, The Tracey Rubinoff Foundation has helped raise over $500,000 in support of Pediatric Diabetes. Each year, the foundation, with the help of Shade Works team members, organizes a skate-a-thon event at the Ricoh Coliseum in downtown Toronto. The event has grown over the years and brings out not only Tracey Rubinoff’s closest family and friends, but also a wide range of children and families fighting against type 1 diabetes.
More recently, the TRF has developed a close relationship with Markham Stouffville Hospital. Specifically, they are working together to expand the hospital and create what will be known as the “Tracey Rubinoff Pediatric Diabetes Wing”, set to begin construction in 2014. This clinic will be state-of-the-art and will ensure to meet the needs of a growing community, as well as increase the overall awareness of type 1 diabetes. Patients will also be able to benefit from its location as it near the East Markham Community Centre and Libraries, creating a centre of health and wellness. It has just recently been announced that the clinic will be ready to open its doors after a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 8, 2014. This will be an exciting day for not only the Tracey Rubinoff Foundation and Markham Stouffville Hospital, but to the entire community as well.
